Denver commercial fire safety: what property operators need to know.

Provider service, municipal inspections and permit review are different parts of the process. This guide explains where a commercial service request begins.

Call for service

Begin with the property—not a code diagnosis.

For an existing commercial property, the useful starting point is the address, system involved, reason for service and any deadline. A qualified provider can then confirm the exact scope, credentials and records required for that job.

Property service

Recurring testing, troubleshooting, repairs and deficiency correction are performed and documented by the provider identified for the work.

Denver oversight

The City and County of Denver administers its code, plan review, permits, municipal inspections and applicable licensing processes.

Completion records

Keep the provider’s service record, test documentation and any correction or retest record with the property file.

Which provider credentials matter?

The answer depends on the system and work. Denver’s fire-safety systems license application identifies separate categories including fire alarm, fire sprinkler, fire extinguisher, fire pump and commercial kitchen hood extinguisher work. Colorado registration or permit rules may also apply to a particular fire-suppression scope.

Before work is authorized through Denver Fire Safety, the performing provider is identified for the customer. The provider remains responsible for regulated technical work and the applicable service documentation.

When does the city become involved?

A Denver Fire Department commercial occupancy inspection is a municipal compliance inspection. It is different from provider-performed inspection and testing of alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers and other systems. Routine service on an existing system is also different from a project permit.

New construction, alterations, acceptance testing, a change in use or a formal order can create additional review and inspection steps. Denver’s official pages are the source of truth; the service provider should confirm job-specific requirements before proceeding.

Have a report, deadline or fire-safety service need?

We’ll review the property details, confirm any missing information and identify the qualified provider before service is scheduled.
